Loaded four rolls into the 1L tank. Pre-soaked film for ~7 minutes. During the pre-soak, mixed 14mL Rodinal (3.5mL/roll) in distilled water to ~800mL. Poured developer in at 1:14 pm, then topped off with distilled water. Agitated 20x over the first minute, then 5x at 15:00 and 5x at 35:00. All agitations are half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree inversion, then gently back). I have no way to cool the chemicals at the moment, so development happened at 80℉ today.
After fifty minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in ~80 degree tap water. Fixed for 6 minutes, agitating 10x/minute (that’s now 20 rolls from this batch of fixer). Reclaimed fixer and rinsed for ten minutes in tap water, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank with mixed tap and distilled water (I had too little distilled left to just use that) and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.
Evaluation and notes
Roll 1499
Shit, I really like how this roll came out. Humble Fomapan did a great job of capturing landscapes from the passenger window of a moving car. Really, this roll has some of the best landscapes I’ve shot in a while. Fast film for fast shutter speeds with the aperture not having to be wide open means that good timing and focusing got some nice, crisp textures: look at the vegetation on 04 and 08, for instance. The long, sinuous lines of the hills in the background are also quite pleasing; purely as flat compositions, there’s a lot to like in these landscapes.
Especially in the middle of the roll, there’s a some nice contrasts in the colors of trees: white trunks that have already lost their leaves to the fall juxtaposed with darker evergreens or trees that have not yet gone bare (15 is maybe the best example of this).
Really pretty roll, all in all.
