Loaded into both two-roll tanks inside daylight changing bag. Pre-wet film for ~45 minutes. During the pre-soak mixed 8.5mL HC-110 concentrate into distilled water to 1L (total for both tanks). Emptied out pre-wetting water and poured developer into the tank. Agitated 40x over the first sixty seconds or so, knocked on the tank several times to dislodge bubbles, and then agitated 5x at 20:00 and 40:00. All agitations are all half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree angle, then gently back).

After 60 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed 5x/10x/20x in 68-degree tap water. Fixed in fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes, inverting 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. (That’s now 24 rolls fixed in this batch of fixer.) Reclaimed fixer and rinsed for ten minutes in tap water, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank with distilled water and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.

Evaluation and notes

Roll 1495

Still enjoying Kono! Monolit: dark shadows that still have detail, a good amount of exposure latitude, fine grain, good texture. The shadows work really well on the sculptures at sunset (01–16): the shadows are dramatic and I’m quite happy with the compoositions in a lot of the shots (especially 04, 05, 10, 13). 15 is a nicely lit photo of flowers illuminated strongly from the side at sunset.

The rest of the rol, at San Filipe de Neri, largely work well: you can tell I was looking at Edward Weston’s photos from Mexico at about that time and thinking about them while I was in New Mexico (21–25). The statuary (e.g., 20, 25) and the flowers (32, 33) really really benefit from the contrast and the fine grain on the film.

All in all, a pretty successful roll.

Roll 1496

Derev Pan is once again a pain to handle, but I rather like the results.

The shots at the rattlesnake museum are a mixed bag: it was quite dark in there, and the combination of maximum aperture and shooting at an angle through glass made for some odd results—sometimes quite effective (e.g., 02, 07). 22 is excellent, to: sharp for the part of the lizard in focus, drifting off quickly to misty haze in the background.

The cocktail photos from the Apothecary Lounge are clean but nothing special. The rooftop cityscapes are kind of fun, but in retrospect I wish I’d used something less contrasty for the sunset lighting. (Well, it’s what was in the camera.)

Basically a competent roll, but one of the less interesting rolls from this trip to Albuquerque, all in all.
