Roll 1462: Kodak TMax P3200 @ EI 3200? // HC-110 1+31 with standard agitation
- 1462: Minneapolis Institute of Art / Minnehaha Regional Park. (17 August 2025. Kodak TMax P3200 @ EI 3200? in Minolta XE-7?.) (Only roll in tank.)
Another roll of TMax P3200 with a standard agitation schedule.
Loaded inside daylight changing bag. Pre-wet film. During the pre-soak mixed ~9.5mL HC-110 concentrate into distilled water to ~900 mL. Emptied out pre-wetting water and poured developer in to the single-roll tank and topped off the tank with distilled water. Agitated 20x over the first thirty seconds or so, knocked on the tank several times to dislodge bubbles, and then agitated 5x every 30 seconds to a total development time of twelve minutes. All agitations are all half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree angle, then gently back).
After 12 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed 5x/10x/20x in 68-degree tap water. Fixed in fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes, inverting 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. (That’s now 25 rolls fixed in this batch of fixer.) Reclaimed fixer and rinsed for ten minutes in tap water, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank with distilled water and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.
Evaluation and notes
Now, this is a satisfying roll at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. (At least, the first half of the roll is. The second half of the roll is not from MiA.) Nicely exposed, good focus, good composition. Grain is of course prominent, as I’d expect at this speed, but there’s nice line definition (e.g., 03, 05–07) and differentiation between lights and darks (e.g., 11). The Fukushima-inspired statues (12–14), in particular, are great, and the subject matter works well with the grain. I’ll be back to photograph these some more.
The photos from Minnehaha Falls are more variable. The heavy grain works less well in the bright outdoor sun, and the reduced dynamic range doesn’t work well for the photos of the falls themselves (16, 17). But the strong dark/light contrasts in the pergola beams (18, 19) and the steel under-bridge structures (22–35) are quite pleasing, and it somehow manages to work all right with the floral shots (20–21). All in all, the under-bridge shots are pretty good, despite the fact that there seems to have been some schmutz on the lens, which was visible on a few shots, depending on lighting and focus.
All in all, a very satisfying roll of P3200.
