• 1446: Indian Mounds Park, Commercial Street, and lowertown St Paul. (test roll for repaired Nikon. 1 May 2024. Hand-rolled Kentmere 400 @ EI 400 in Nikon FE2) (on top.)
  • 1430: Beth Orton at the Parkway Theater; Twin Cities freeways. (7 Mar–??? 2024. Hand-rolled Kentmere 400 @ EI 400 in Pentax K-1000??) (on bottom.)

Two more rolls of Kentmere while other rolls are developing.

Pre-soaked for ~30 minutes During the pre-soak, mixed 500mL Caffenol CL in ~425mL water. 8g waterfree washing soda, 6g Vitamin C, 11g iodized salt, and 20g Essential Everyday instant coffee, distilled water. Waited for microbubbling to stop after each addition. Poured into tank, then topped off with distilled water. Agitated 40x over first minute, then 5x over 15 seconds at 20:00 and 40:00. These are half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree inversion, then gently back).

After 60 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in 72 degree water. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes (that’s now 5 rolls from this batch of fixer), inverting 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Recaptured fixer and rinsed for ten minutes, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank again and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.

Evaluation and notes

Roll 1430

The concert shots are more or less a total loss—this is a much less photographer-friendly lighting setup than Freedy Johnson four nights earlier at the same venue. The opening act, which is all I shot before I was told there was no photography that night, are certainly nothing all that interesting, and they’re not developed enough to compensate for the underexposure.

There’s little interesting in the later half of the roll, too. Nothing special compositionally or in terms of subject matter, and the roll as a whole shows a fair amount of scratching and water-spotting. All in all, not one of my better rolls of film.
