Loaded into the 1L tank inside daylight changing bag. Pre-wet film for ~20 minutes. During the pre-soak, mixed 10mL Rodinal (5mL/roll) in ~900mL distilled water. Poured developer in; topped off with distilled water. Agitated 40x over the first minute, then 1x more at 60:00. All agitations are half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree inversion, then gently back).

After two hours, disposed of developer, rinsed in ~68 degree tap water. Fixed in Arista fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes (that’s now 14 rolls from this batch of fixer), inverting 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Reclaimed fixer and rinsed for ten minutes in tap water, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank with tap water and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.

Evaluation and notes

Roll 1444

One of the better rolls I’ve had at MiA, actually: stand-developing this in Rodinal worked pretty well. It’s grainy, and there’s a nice crisp contrast between the illuminated parts of the sculptures, the non-illuminated parts of the sculptures, and the shadows cast by the sculpture in the illumination. (This works especially well at the beginning of the roll, e.g. 02–07.) This roll has some of the better shots I’ve taken of Maïmouna Guerresi’s Supha are on this roll. There’s a few nice shots involving people on this roll, too (e.g., 31A).

Roll 1448

Volk was a fun band to shoot live. I got better shots at Fargo Brewing last year, when Frank Turner was onstage (that would be a series just after roll 1300), but that was in part because he was closer to the front of the stage and partly because he doesn’t move around as much as these two. But when I got lucky on timing and focus, there were some nice band shots on this roll, and being able to get close to the stage helped.

THe normal concert-shooting difficulties all apply, of course.
