Two more.

Loaded inside daylight changing bag. Pre-wet film for about 45 minutes. During the pre-soak, mixed 5 mL Rodinal in 500mL tap water. Poured developer in and topped off with tap water. Agitated 10x over the first minute, then once at 25:00. All agitations are half-agitations, gently (i.e., gently twisting to a 90-degree inversion, then gently back).

After 50 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in 68 degree water. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 7 minutes (that’s now 36 rolls from this batch of fixer; 10 since replenishment), inverting 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Reclaimed fixer and rinsed for ten minutes in tap water, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank with tap water and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.

Evaluation and notes

Roll 1288

Another “damn, I love this FN-64 in Rodinal” roll. Kind of a mediocre roll compositionally, all in all, but technically very well done, all in all. There are some nice shots in here that I quite enjoy, too.

Film is quite crisp; there’s good foreground/background separation on virtually all shots, too. There are some shots showing some minor streaking, perhaps bromide drag? (05, etc.). Some more agitation would probably be good—this is a reminder that full stand often results in bromide drag.

Many photos on the latter part of the roll are overexposed; I think the battery for the light meter on the K-1000 needed a change? This is one of those things that might be clearer if I didn’t have a fourteen-month gap between exposing the roll and doing the write-up.

All in all, a good roll with some good results.

Roll 1337

Another profoundly disappointing roll of PanF+. I have had good results from this film before, but jeez, it sure seems like it’s been a while. This is badly underdeveloped, whereas the other roll in the tank wasn’t; I wonder if it’s just that I didn’t hit the absolute minimum amount of Rodinal for two rolls, which should be in the range of 10 to 13mL. It may just be that the FN-64 had a greater electrochemical affinity for the developer and appropriated most of it, not leaving enough for the PanF+. Or maybe that it took four months to develop; PanF+ is reputed not to hold a latent image as well as some other films. Or maybe I’m doing something else stupid that I can’t think of.

Whatever the exact cause, there’s nothing usable on this roll.
