Two rolls of Ilford HP5+ film, both shot to be pushed two stops, on 35mm rolls in the 120 tank. This is my first time using Rodinal! Alas, I’m also pushing, since the two rolls I most want to see need to be pushed and I’m not yet comfortable pushing in Caffenol. In any case, the Massive Dev Chart says that two hours in Rodinal 1+100 is ideal; I seem to have read somewhere that there should always bee at least 6.5mL of Rodinal in the container, so I suppose this is closer to 1+77.

Mixed 6.5mL Rodinal to a total of 500mL solution. Poured in. Remembered at that point that the 120 tank does not take quite 500mL of liquid, so there are not 6.5mL of Rodinal in the tank. Rather than following the recommended agitation schedule, then, which is “none after first minute”, I’m going to hope that a little additional agitation will help the film finish. Note to self: next time, I should mix 6.5mL Rodinal in 400mL of water, pour that into the tank, then top off the tank with water.

Agitated 20x over first 30 seconds, then 10x over 15 seconds at 30:00, 60:00, and at 90:00. Alternated orientation at each agitation to avoid uneven development.

After 120 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in 68 degree water, filling and emptying the tank until the water rinsed completely clear, then four more times. Performed a clearing test: 1 min 20 seconds for HP5+ was the clearing time, so used 4:30 as the fixing time. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 4.5 minutes (that’s now 27 rolls from this batch of fixer, 17 since replenishment), turning 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Recaptured fixer and rinsed for ten minutes, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank again and agitated 20x, and hung negatives horizontally to dry.
