Two rolls of Ilford film, both shot at box speed, on 35mm rolls in the 120 tank. Both were shot during a walk yesterday. Both likely have a substantial number of underexposed shots, since it was gloomy and getting on toward sunset.

Mixed 750mL Caffenol C-L because I’m using the leftover for batches 1134-1135-1138-1140-1141, which are developing concurrently in the five-reel tank. Put the beaker holding it in water at 62 degrees at the bottom of the picnic cooler to bring the developer temperature down. Allowed to cool to 62 degrees. My previous experiments have been for two hours, but I want more negative density here; I’m going to leave it developing for an two and a half hours. I’ll be agitating every fifteen minutes (except at the beginnng—20x over the first thirty seconds—and that there was a standard-length agitation at 7:30). I’m not extendending the agitation interval along with the development time, even though I’m developing at a lower temperature.

Composition for this 750mL of Caffenol C-L: 12g washing soda, 8g ascorbic acid powder, 15g iodized table salt, 30g Kroger instant coffee. Pre-wet film ~10 minutes at 62 degrees, holding it in the cooler to pre-wet. Poured out water, then poured in developer; agitated 20x over 30 seconds, then 10x over 15 seconds at 7:30 and at 15:00, then 10x over 15 seconds every fifteen thereafter, to a total developing time of 150 minutes. Kept the cannister in the same water bath in the cooler during the cycle, trying to maintain 62 degree temperature by periodically adding ice. Alternated orientation at each agitation to avoid uneven development.

After 150 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in 68 degree water, filling and emptying the tank until the water rinsed completely clear, then four more times. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes (that’s now 25 rolls from this batch of fixer, 15 since replenishment), turning 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Recaptured fixer and rinsed for ten minutes, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank again and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.
