Taking another shot at developing C-41 in B/W chemistry because apparently I’m too stubborn to learn from experience. Also, since I’ve had the least luck with Kodak stocks in Caffenol, these are Kodak ColorPlus. (Well, actually. That’s because Kodacolor happened to be the cheap color film available at the time.)
Mixed 500mL Caffenol C-L: 8g washing soda, 5g ascorbic acid powder, 10g iodized table salt, 20g instant coffee. Pre-wet film ~1 hour at 68 degrees. Poured out water, then poured in developer; agitated 20x over 30 seconds, then 10x over 15 seconds at 7:30 and at 15:00, then 10x over 15 seconds every fifteen thereafter, to a total developing time of 150 minutes. Kept the cannister in the same water bath in the cooler during the cycle, trying to maintain 62 degree temperature by periodically adding ice. Alternated orientation at each agitation to avoid uneven development.
After 150 minutes, disposed of developer, rinsed in 68 degree water, filling and emptying the tank until the water rinsed completely clear, then four more times. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 6 minutes (that’s now 25 rolls from this batch of fixer, 15 since replenishment), turning 10x over 15 seconds at the top of every minute. Recaptured fixer and rinsed for ten minutes, then emptied tank, added a few drops of Photo-Flo, filled tank again and agitated 20x, and hung negatives vertically to dry.
