All shot on the Pentax K-1000 with 50mm f/1.7 lens. Multiple types of film here. It’s all Ilford.
Another five-reel tank day! The reels are still bit hard to get used to. Filling all five reels this time; I’m developing a pair of C-41s in the two-reel tank at the same time, so I’m making extra Caffenol anyway. Once again, this also means I’ll need to make up more fixer during development. Man, I shot some film this weekend. I also basically wasted a roll when I loaded it badly and it jammed early on; I tried to rewind it partway in hope of recovering it, but mis-estimated and rewound too far.
This is being processed at the same time as rolls 1125-1128 (in the 120 tank), and is also being processed at 62 degrees to see what effect that has on grain and tone. The Time/Temp Converter suggests 97 minutes and 42 seconds at 62 degrees; I’m just going to round that to 100 minutes.
Mixed 1L Caffenol C-L: 16g waterfree washing soda, 10g Vitamin C, 12g iodized table salt, and 40g instant coffee (Nescafe Taster’s Choice). Upping the amount of iodized salt again: we have comparatively high-speed film in here, and I want to see if it helps. Pre-wet for ~30 minutes while mixing and beginning to type up these plans. Used leftover additional Caffenol C-L from rolls 1125 and 1128, which are currently developing in the two-reel tank.
Dropped the tank because it was wet! Grabbed for it! Managed to grap it it by the top! Watched the top slide open and expose at least one roll of film to light! Aaargh!
Poured out pre-wetting water, then poured developer into tank and noted time. Rolls 1125-1128 are developing in the other tank and the timer is set for them; chemicals were poured in with exactly 1 hour left on timer. Agitated gently 20x over first 30 seconds, then put into picnic cooler with cool water. Agitated 15x over 30 seconds at 7:30 in. Agitated gently 10x at 15 minutes in, then every fifteen minutes thereafter, always keeping bottom of tank down, and always knocking on the bottom to dislodge air bubbles, and always putting it back into the picnic cooler.
During the fixing of rolls 1125-1128, mixed 100mL undilute Ilford Rapid Fixer into 500mL fresh solution, then added to existing fixer.
Rinsed ~5 minutes in tap water at ~75 degrees, emptying container entirely multiple times. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 (that’s now 21 rolls from this 1.5L batch of fixer, 5 since replenishment), agitating 10x every minute for seven minutes. Reclaimed fixer, then rinsed 10 minutes in 75 degree water. Added a small amount of Photo-Flo to the water in the tank, agitated for thirty seconds, dumped water. Shook reels, then hung the negatives vertically to dry.
