Rolls 1104 and 1110: Ilford PanF+ @ EI 50 and Ilford HP5+ at EI 400 // Caffenol CL semi-stand
- 1104: South Dakota
- 1110: The House on the Rock
Another mixed batch: I’m getting more comfortable with using essentially the same Caffenol recipe and techniques for more or less all of my Ilford films. Both were exposed in the Pentax K-1000. This clears out the film backlog from our recent road trip!
Used the remaining ~500mL of Caffenol C-L from earlier today; its ingredients are: 8g waterfree washing soda, 5g Vitamin C, 7.5g iodized table salt, and 20g instant coffee (Kroger). Pre-wet for ~5 minutes while beginning to type up these plans.
Poured out pre-wetting water, then poured developer into tank and started timer for 70 minutes. Agitated gently 15x over first 30 seconds, then let stand at edge of sink. Agitated 15x over 30 seconds at 7:30 in. Agitated gently 10x at 15 minutes in, then every fifteen minutes thereafter, alternating each time which end tank rested on, and always knocking on the bottom to dislodge air bubbles..
Rinsed ~5 minutes in tap water at ~68 degrees, emptying container entirely multiple times. Fixed in a new 500mL batch of Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 (that’s now 2 rolls on this batch of fixer), agitating continuously for two and a half minutes. (Fixing test: part of a strip was exposed to fixer for 25 seconds, then, when dropped in, took 30 seconds to become completely clear. This seems ridiculously fast to me, but then, how often have I mixed my own fixer in the past? Quintuping instead of tripling the clear time to hedge my bets a bit.) Reclaimed fixer, then rinsed 10 minutes in 68 degree water. Finger-squeegied each roll, then cracked it like a whip several times, then finger-squeegied again, then hung the negatives horizontally to dry.
