Rolls 1079 and 1095: Ilford FP4+ @ EI 125 // Caffenol CL semi-stand
- 1079: Glendale. Denver.
- 1095: Parker snowfall.
Both Ilford FP4+ at box speed of 125. Both in metal 35mm reels in 120 tank. Pre-wet film ~20 minutes at 70 degrees.
Caffenol C-L: 8g waterfree washing soda, 5g Vitamin C, 3g iodized table salt; let stand five minutes; added 20g instant coffee (Folgers). Mixed each into ~450mL water at 68 degrees in indicated order, shaking each to ensure it is fully dissolved. Added water at 68 degrees to 500mL. Let stand five minutes.
Poured out pre-wetting water, then poured developer into tank and started timer for 70 minutes. 30 seconds in, agitated gently ten times over twenty seconds, then let stand at edge of sink. At 35 minutes, agitated gently 10x over 20 seconds, then left sitting upside-down for remaining time.
Rinsed ~5 minutes in tap water at ~68 degrees, emptying container entirely multiple times. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 (that’s now 26 rolls, 16 after replenishment), agitating 10x over 20 seconds initially, then 5x over ten seconds every minute for five minutes. (Fixing test: part of a strip was exposed to fixer for twenty seconds, then, when dropped in, took 70 seconds to become completely clear.) Reclaimed fixer, then rinsed 10 minutes in cold (60 degree) water, with one pump dish soap at the beginning. Finger-squeegied each roll, then cracked it like a whip several times, then finger-squeegied again, then hung the negatives horizontally to dry.
Both are basically well exposed and well developed, but there’s still a fair amount of grain in some of the light areas, and it’s especially noticeable in the sky in some frames. Maybe more iodized salt next time?
