Another caffenol stand development pair. Both PanF+ at box speed of 50. Both in metal 35mm reels in 120 tank. Pre-wet film ~5 minutes at 68 degrees.

Caffenol C-L: Used leftover unused developer from previous batch, plus a tiny bit (~50mL) of developer that actually developed last batch to make sure tank was perfectly full. Poured out pre-wet water, then poured developer into tank and started timer for 70 minutes. 30 seconds in, agitated gently ten times over twenty seconds, then let stand in sink.

Rinsed, filling and emptying the tank ~6 times until it rinsed perfectly clearn, plus ~2 minutes, in tap water at ~68 degrees. Fixed in Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 without performing a clearing test (that’s now 10 rolls), agitating 10x over 20 seconds initially, then 5x over ten seconds approximately (though irregularly) at the top of every subsequent minute. Rinsed ~10 minutes in cold (60 degree) water.

Images here are less contrasty than with 1076/1078 – less initial agitation? Because the film was lower-speed? Because it was underexposed initially? Because ~10% of the developer was reused? I have to keep better notes. But there’s plenty of usable stuff, I suspect, although I’ll have to wait until we get it into the scanner to see for sure.

Reinhold notes in his blog that “classic cubic-crystal emulsions like Ilford PanF+ or Agfa APX 100 and goes on to say that stand development exacerbates the problem. He says later that Caffenol C-L is better for stand development for these films. It may also be that the salt was not iodized, or that I should just use more. Reinhold recommends semi-stand development for APX 100.
