Batch 110: Purple Drank (Concord Pyment)
I don't get Concord grape juice. For the longest time, I puzzled over where the bizarre taste of American grape flavoring came from; turns out it's Concord grapes. There's a large chance, therefore, that I won't actually like this pyment, but science must go on.
Ingredients in this batch
- 64 oz RW Knudsen Just Concord grape juice
- 28 oz Kirkland clover honey
- 1 tsp yeast nutrient
- ½ pack of Lalvin 1118 wine yeast
- Denver tap water to 1 gallon
- 12 oz brown sugar, added on 7/8
Process
Well, this drank sure is purple. Starting gravity was 1.080. This fermented completely dry, resulting in a truly horrifying-tasting substance. In a halfhearted attempt to save a pyment that basically tastes like grape flavoring and nothing else, I chucked in 3/4 lb of brown sugar on 7/8.
I bottled this sucker on 8/5 and noted that it "still tastes like flavoring." Final gravity came in at 1.035 for an ABV around 10.5%.
