- PickYourOwn.org. Really terribly designed website that has a lot of useful information.
- Online retailers
- Penzey's Spices
- GloryBee has many honey varietals.
- The Bee Folks also has many honey varietals.
- Sleeping Bear Farms has several honey varietals.
- Flying Bee Ranch offers more than a dozen honey varietals, and their website is an homage to 1995-era web site design.
- WineGrapesDirect.com is apparently, despite the name, a source not for grapes, but for must and juice from west-coast US states. Haven't used them yet, but might if I ever get around to brewing a pyment.
- Santa Barbara County
- Santa Barbara Farmers' Market, Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Solvang, Montecito.
- Apple Lane Farms, Solvang. Guess what they sell. As of 2016-04-12, no website updates since 2014.
- Quacken Farms, Santa Ynez. Pumpkins.
- Restoration Oaks Ranch, Gaviota. Blueberries, some other fruits, in season only (June–July; maybe earlier and/or later). Some honey available, as well. U-pick as well as buy-at-stand.
- IV Food Co-Op, Isla Vista. Fruits; honey?
- Vices & Spices from Around the World, Santa Barbara. Good coffee, too, last time I was there.
- San Marcos Farms has good honey (batch 001 used their orange blossom honey) but their website is virtually nonexistent. They're regulars at SB County farmer's markets.
- San Luis Obispo County
- Brookshire Farms, San Luis Obispo. Pumpkins.
- Rutiz Family Farms, Arroyo Grande. Berries, pumpkins.
- SLO Creek Farms, San Luis Obispo. Apples (multiple varieties), herbs. U-pick.
- Jack Creek Farms, Templeton. Many honey varieties (though, as of late April 2016, honey was only available in one-pound and smaller packages; the nice lady behind the counter says this is not typical, though, and is only the case right now because of the drought of the last several years); in season, pumpkins, multiple apple varieties, multiple stone fruits, figs, several pear varieties, herbs. Also fresh cider. Very friendly people behind the counter offered us many free samples.
- The Secret Garden Organic Herb Shop, San Luis Obispo.
- Avila Valley Barn in San Luis Obispo. Good fresh fruit; people are really friendly and prices are decent. There is also non-varietal honey available (simply labeled
honey
) which, if I recall correctly, is local. - The California Bee Company in San Luis Obispo County doesn't seem to sell directly to consumers but does list SLO County vendors where their products can be purchased. They claim their black sage honey is notable. Says they sell varietals, but requests you contact them to inquire what's currently available.
- Cal Poly Organic Farm sells produce WThF in San Luis Obispo and/or Morro Bay.
- Ventura County
- Ventura County Farmers' Markets. Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Santa Clarita.
- McGrath Family Farm, Camarillo. Pumpkins, berries. U-pick, but there's a $7 fee to walk onto the picking area in addition to a per-pound charge, and that fee goes up to $10 on weekends. (Prices for McGrath Family Farms last checked 2016-04-12.)
- Underwood Family Farms, Moorpark and Somis. Multiple kinds of berries, stone fruits, citrus, herbs, U-pick, with $3 fee that goes up to $6 on weekends. (Prices for Underwood Family Farms last checked 2016-04-12.)
- Bennett Honey, Fillmore. Multiple kinds, bulk sales, friendly people, tasty honey.
- A & F Country Market, Ventura. Honey and very fresh produce. Honey only comes from one or two sources that are otherwise easily available in Ventura, but there are several varietals and prices are fairly good.
- Heritage Honey, Ventura. Honey.
- Ema's Herbs, Ventura.
- Spice-Topia, Ventura. Good selection, but noticeably more expensive than online retailers.
- Oregon. All of this information is profoundly incomplete and compiled largely by happenstance.
- Corvallis area
- Flying Bee Ranch. When we visited, the helpful man there had perhaps two dozen honey varietals in various sizes from less than a pound to approximately three pounds; did not check if larger quantities were available.
- Queen Bee Apiaries. When we passed through, there was no one in the building, and the only honey on offer was wildflower, in jars of various sizes; following directions on a sign, we bought several 3-lb. jars on the honor system by leaving money in the jar on the counter.
- Jim's Fruit Stand sells honey, including (during our one visit) several comparatively hard-to-find varietals. All pre-packaged in containers of 3 lbs or less, though; no bulk sales were visible.
- Might be worth a stop if stopping at tasting rooms for the excellent and very close 2 Towns Ciderhouse and/or Nectar Creek Mead.
- Eugene area
- GloryBee, lots of beekeeping equipment and bulk honey sales. Notable when we passed through: coffee varietal honey, inexpensive bulk blackberry honey (at about $5/pound; plastic jugs holding ~3 lb. were available for $2). Lots of sales are in comparatively large quantities (e.g., 1 gal. or more), though some is available in smaller quantities.
