Today we used up Patrick's current mead solera in several batches split between the two of us. To this one, I added black rose tea bags.

Ingredients in this batch

  • 1 gallon solera mead
  • 8 bags of Triple Leaf rose black tea

Process

Drew off a gallon of mead into a green carboy and stuffed in the tea bags. As the tea bags expanded, the carboy overflowed into the airlock a few times, so I got to taste the increasing rose and black tea flavor over the first week. Such a tough life.

I bottled this batch on 5/5/19, by which time the rose aroma had really taken a backseat. Since I was already on a Douglas Coupland kick after batch 147: Dag Bellinghausen, I named it after the opening line of one of my favorite novels ever. Girlfriend in a Coma. Jared is the jock who died unexpectedly while in high school and narrates/observes the book's events from "the dark side of the moon."
