Batch 118: Madison, Madison
A wildflower mead, using a jar of especially delicious and unbelievably sweet honey that we bought at the farmer's market in Jackson, Mississippi.
Ingredients in this batch
- 2.9 lb raw wildflower honey from Bee Hive Apiary, Madison, MS.
- ⅓ vial Inland Island INIS-960 (
Fruit Sacch
) yeast. - untreated tap water to just over 1 gallon.
- 1 tsp. LD Carlson yeast nutrient.
- Note: no SNA planned for this batch.
Procedure
Standard procedure: Sanitized, then mixed honey and powders and water, then agitated thoroughly by shaking. Pitched yeast and measured gravity. Popped in and filled an airlock.
Brew date: 18 June 2018.
Original gravity: 1.108.
Bottling date: 5 December 2018
Final gravity: 1.030.
Calculated ABV: 11½%.
Yield: TBD; hopefully, about a gallon.
- 2 x 750 mL swing-top blue mead bottles
- 2 x 500 mL swing-top beer bottles
- 1 x 22 fl. oz. beer bottle
Total: 106 fl. oz., or about ⅚ gallon.
Observations
- 2018-06-20T14:19: Finally! There's carbon dioxide being produced in the carboy.
- 2018-12-05T19:45: Bottled, yielding only 83% of a gallon at 11.5%.
