I got a good price on cherry and apple juice recently, so I'm taking another stab at making a cider that hopefully won't suck forever. (Dude, King Soopers is great. Yes, middle age is all up in my business, and I get excited about good supermarkets. Shh.) This also uses a random cider yeast from some Australian company that I must have picked up at our old homebrew store once.

Ingredients in this batch

  • 2 gallons Kroger 100% apple juice
  • ½ gallon Simple Truth black cherry juice
  • ½ gallon Simple Truth tart cherry juice
  • 1 pack of Mangrove Jack's M02 cider yeast, rehydrated in ½ cup 96-degree tap water
  • 1 Tbsp Fermax yeast nutrient
  • ¼ tsp yeast energizer and ½ tsp Fermaid K

Process

Dumped everything in a 3-gallon carboy. Realized that a 3-gallon carboy is really hard to aerate. Did my best with a long brewing spoon and a lot of splashing. The yeast took right off while rehydrating, so hopefully it'll do well in this batch.
