Another extract kit beer, this one from Northern Brewer. (It’s one of three kits I bought during their IPA Day sale.) We’re looking forward to putting some lavender in at least some of this, in part inspired by the amazing beer Lemondula from nearby BrewLAB in Carpinteria. We’re starting to name our beers after moments from Monty Python skits; these names all come from the excellent Nudge Nudge skit.

Ingredients in this batch

Brew day: 1 October 2016

Yield: 4.35 gallons (total for all sub-batches)

Santized, sanitized, sanitized. Filtered two and a half gallons of water and boiled it, then dissolved the malt extract in the boiling water, stirring. While waiting for the boil, filtered more water. When the boil started, I started the timer and tossed in the first half-ounce ounces of hops. Kept stirring, adding another half-ounce of hops at 15 minutes, then a full ounce at 5 minutes. Poured the wert through a strainer into a brewing bucket already containing cool water, then topped off to five gallons and cooled the wort with an immersion chiller. When the wort hit the target temperature, I agitated it by rocking and stirring, then pitched the yeast, put on the bucket lid, and slapped on an airlock.

On October 9, added in the last ounce of hops for dry-hopping. Pulled out these hops on 19 October, then bottled three gallons and added additional flavorings into the other two gallons.

Original gravity: 1.042.
Final gravity: 1.014
