Here is the list of potential interview questions that we developed in class on 22 April. I've organized them according to whether I personally think that they are lower-level questions (which might be one productive way to start off), medium-level, or higher-level questions (toward which you might want to try to steer the conversation as it progresses).
Lower-level Questions
How did you become interested in your field?
What knowledge/information/skills does your field require?
What are important central ideas in your field?
How does this class relate to its topic, as a whole? To your field?
Why did you choose to teach this class? or, How did you come to teach this class?
What is your current research on?
What are you (professionally) proud of?
Medium-level Questions
What do you want students to get out of this class?
What are real-world applications of this course's topic?
What kind/amount of work do you expect of students in this class?
What is this class really about?
What kind of writing do you do (professionally or otherwise)?
What kinds of writing choices do you make in your own writing? How do you make them? What is your writing schedule like?
Higher-level Questions
How do you go about putting together a course? How do you choose readings/assignments?
How is knowledge in your field different from knowledge in other (related, or very dissimilar) fields?
