Although we'll have better opportunities for interacting and learning from each other if we meet in person, there may be times when we can't arrange mutually convenient times, or when you just have a quick question. You can always send me e-mail when this happens, but you also have the option of checking in with me virtually during certain times over the web, or by using a chat client.
If you want to discuss a paper grade, we should definitely meet in person instead of online, and you should bring a copy your paper that has my comments on it.
You have two options: You can either chat with me using Skype, or chat with me over the web using Google Chat. Using Skype requires that you have the Skype software intalled (download it here). Chatting over the web by using Google Chat doesn't require a software download or account.
I'm holding virtual office hours weekly on Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. -- we can also make appointments to meet virtually at other times, if you'd like (although, again, it's probably better to meet in person when possible).
If my status displays as available, you're welcome to check in at other times. I do ask that you understand that I have other responsibilities -- I'm a student, too! -- and respect my privacy when my status shows as "unavailable". If I'm not responding, please check the course Twitter messages (on the right, if you have JavaScript enabled) to see whether I'm running late, and send me an e-mail and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Chat with Patrick via Skype. Requires Skype account and software. You may need to be signed into Skype before you click on the link.
Chat with Patrick via GChat. No software or account required, but I won't know who you are when the chat window pops up, so you'll have to tell me.
Links above should graphically indicate my current status if you have JavaScript enabled in your browser. You may need to refresh this web page to see whether my status has changed.
